President Trump has stated that Saudi King Salman will not survive for more than 2 weeks without backing of US military. In a rally, President Trump said, “We protect Saudi Arabia. Would you say they’re rich? And I love the king, King Salman. But I said ‘King- we’re protecting you- you might not be there for two weeks without us-you have to pay for your military”.
The remarks had come as the oil prices are rising and Saudi Arabia is the undeclared leader of OPEC or the oil-producing bloc. Trump has repeatedly criticised Saudi Arabia for rise in oil prices. It is reported that Mohammad Bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince travelled to Kuwait to hold a meeting with the Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber to discuss increasing oil production and the Gulf crisis.
Trump had accused the OPEC in the UN General Assembly of ripping off the rest of the world. The oil prices have risen steadily over the last one year. One oil barrel which was at $50 in October 2017 is not priced at $75, thus registering a steady rise. US administration has always shared close ties with Saudi Arabia and the alliance has stood firm against the spread of Iranian influence in the region.rumm
