Dutch officials have stated that two Armenian children, Howick 13 and his sister Lili 12, who had grown up in Netherlands for the past 10 years will be deported to their country Armenia. The children have come out of their hiding and told the authorities about their whereabouts.
Dutch authorities said that both the children had gone into hiding to avoid deportation for the last 3 days. They are all set to be sent back to their mother in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Both the children had come to Netherlands in 2008.
Armina Hambartsjumian, their mother had lost a legal plea for asylum last year and was deported to Armenia without her children. She sent her two children to a secret location before deporting. The children were, however, found by the Dutch authorities and sent to foster parents. Council of State of Netherlands had ruled last week to send both the children back to Armenia to live with their mother. Hambartsjumian, had appealed to the Dutch authorities to grant asylum to her kids and told the authorities that were hiding in a safe place.
Finally, she told media that she will work with the Dutch authorities to ensure safe return of her kids. Both the children had written letters to the King Willem-Alexander and Prime Minister Mark Rutte, pleading for permission to be able to stay on in Netherlands. The children were caught in a Tom and Jerry chase and had been moved 17 times.
Princess Laurentien had come forward in their favour and asked the authorities not to deport them as it will have a great affect on their psyche.
