Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of Iranian Republic has called for completely cleansing the Idlib province of the armed rebels while he is visiting Syria for holding talks with various officers. Zarif is scheduled to hold talks with President Assad and Prime Minister Imad Khamis regarding fostering the ties between two nations and also the recent developments on the Syrian battlefield.
In a statement to Fars news agency, Zarif had stated that “All of the Syrian territory must be preserved and all the sects and groups should start the round of reconstruction as one collective and the displaced should return to their families”.
He further added, “And the remaining terrorists in the remaining parts of Idlib must be cleaned out and the region should be placed back under control of the Syrian people”.
The offensive is Idlib is inevitable as the Syrian regime forces backed by Russian have started to gather around the rebel stronghold. US and UN along with other Western nations have expressed concern that such a move will lead to a major humanitarian crisis, massive displacement and bloodbath.
Iran has been standing by the Syrian regime in the 8-year old civil war and has provided continuous financial, political and military help over the period. Iranian military advisors will continue to stay in Syria as per a latest defensive-technical agreement signed between the two nations earlier this week.
Russian, Turkish and Iranian Presidents are soon to meet in Iran in early September to discuss the situation developing in Syria. Russian intervention in Syrian battlefield on the side of Assad has helped the latter to regain control of most of its territories.
