Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju attended the performance of South Korean pop-stars at Pyongyang first time in a decade taking the bilateral ties before the much-awaited Summit later this month to a new high.
The North Korean leader seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the performance as he was seen clapping with the tunes of many songs and later took photographs with the artists. The whole concert had been a part of the larger strategy to increase the engagement between the two nations after an apparent thaw in the relations after the Winter Olympics when teams from both the nations marched under the united Korean flag. The South Korean delegation of artists included artists and other staff for the concert, demonstrators for taekwondo along with some reporters and government officials. It was basically a reciprocal visit as North Korea had sent its artists to South Korean in February. The title of the concert which was held at the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre was “Spring is coming”. The artists included the elite performers like Cho Yong-pil, Yoon Do-hyun, Baek Ji-young, Lee Sun-hee and also the Red Velvet band.
The two Korean neighbours are technically at war since the 1950-53 conflict had ended in a ceasefire and no peace agreement was signed.
