US praises Afghan offer of open talks with Taliban

The United States has praised Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani’s proposal of open negotiations with Afghan Taliban. US State Department has acknowledged the fact that the armed group has some genuine grievances over corruption, justice and general governance of the land.

President Ghani had offered to talk to Taliban without any preconditions with the primary aim of giving formal recognition to the armed group as a political party which has been fighting US military and internal regime forces for 16 years.

The Taliban have lately resurfaced as per reports that 43 percent of the country is being contested between the Afghan government and the Taliban. A recent study had found that although Taliban had direct control over four percent of the country but have been active in 70 percent of it.
