Eastern Ghouta: Russian humanitarian truce begins

The five-hour humanitarian truce in for allowing safe passage to civilians has come into effect in Eastern Ghouta- the Syrian suburb which has been under continuous bombardment by the Syrian regime forces and has left 550 people dead in a span of 8 days.

The truce has been ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin from 9:00 am to 2:00pm. Lately, a recent chemical attack had claimed the life of one child and had left 18 injured in the Al-Shifaniyah town close to the front lines of the suburb. The recent bombardment has been the heaviest seen in the last 7-year old war in Syria which has resulted in a grave humanitarian crisis.

UN passed a 30-day Ceasefire Resolution in the area but there have been reports of continued offensive in the area despite the same. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had appealed for an immediate implementation of the Resolution as he labelled the situation as “Hell on Earth”.
