Jerusalem: Holy Sepulchre shut by Church leaders

In a highly rare occurrence, the Church of Holy Sepulchre has been shut down for an indefinite period, due to a biased policy of Israel which aims at diminishing the presence of Christians in the city.

It is believed by the Christians that the Church is the site of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial. It thus forms a prominent pilgrimage site for Christians. The leaders of the Church comprising the Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian Church have stated that the state of Israel is violating the status quo at the site and as per the latest bill, the government will take over the church properties which have been so far leased to private companies. It is also stated that the government of Israel plans to levy taxes on various properties of the church.
