North Korea is slated to send a high-level delegation to South Korea for the closing ceremony of Winter Olympics. The delegation will be led by Kim Yong Chol, who is Vice Chairman of the Party Central Committee and will be joined by Ri Son Gwon who is chairing the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the country. Ri was also a part of the North Korean delegation to South in January which had led to its participation in the games.
South Korea is perceiving the development as a positive step which will further push the process achieving lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and ultimate denuclearization of the North. The itinerary of the delegation will be discussed by a document exchange at the ‘truce village’, Panmunjeom which lies in the Joint Security Area between the two nations.
