Trump has openly stated that the Israeli settlements have always come in way of and complicate the peace process and cautioned Israel over the same. He also stated in an interview to a newspaper that both sides were not committed to peace. Trump also threatened Palestinians of no aid unless they agree to talks with Israel.
Palestine is highly angry with Trump’s decision of making Jerusalem the capital of Israel. Israel lays claims over the entire city to be its capital while Palestinians claim East Jerusalem which was occupied by Israel in 1967 Middle East war to be the future capital of Palestine state.
President Trump has expressed concerns about the menace of Israeli settlements which are illegal under international law. More than 600,000 Jews lived on 140 settlements since 1967 on West Bank and in East Jerusalem.
On the other hand, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has declined to accept as a mediator due to the objectionable recognition of Jerusalem.
